INTERNAL AUDITS & INSPECTION.

The ISM Code requires that the Company should carry out internal safety audits on board and ashore at intervals not exceeding twelve months. In exceptional circumstances, this interval may be exceeded by not more than three months.
Never Fear provides resources of experienced fully qualified IACS ISM/ISPS auditors and MLC inspectors to support these activities and verify compliance of the company and the vessel(s) with the Code.

1. A Managing Company Document of Compliance (DOC) internal SMS audit

A managing company should carry out and internal “Safety Management System audit once within period of 12 months in order to obtain or maintain DOC related to the ship types and the flags administration requirements under which the vessels fly. The complexity of the audit depends on number of ship types and flag administrations involved.
Proper internal SMS audit minimize risk of observations and/or NCs occurrences during ROs or Flag audits. If you want to know how badly a major NC may influence your businesses, please contact us. Never Fear will provide short clear answer.

2. ISM internal audit onboard

Like a Company internal audit, the internal ISM audit should be carried out onboard of a vessel to verify compliance with ISM Code. This activity provides a view on implementation of the SMS onboard within the crew involved and what is more important the effectiveness of the link between the vessel and the company to be tested to define potential places for improvement or confirm the effectiveness.

Please be aware that we provide report indicating rooms for improvement as well as an areas where the system fails to comply with the ISM code requirements. Real overview allows to a ship to reduce the risk of NC occurrence during a flag, class or PSC inspections.
We do not want to issue a report only, but we want to be sure that after our support no additional ISM audit after PSC inspection will be requested.
Having honest picture provided with a solutions if needed a ships trade will be optimized to a maximum and that’s what we all looking forward.

Shipping is a “team sport” the company and this ship are one team and the communication; cooperation needs to be effective. An example of sounding plugs order placed over a year ago and not executed within this time can be a potential item during FSI or PSCI to recommend an additional ISM audit when the trade of the vessel is delayed or stopped for a day or more. We know how much cost a day of a vessel. This is why proper auditing may optimize the trade time and save headaches, cost of superintendents’ flights, visas etc.

To fulfill requirements of ISPS code an internal audit shall be carried out onboard. The concept of the audit is the same as for ISM internal one to provide the company a clear view and realistic perspective of ISPS Code implementation to maximize the trade of the ship and avoid observation or even non-conformities during ROs, PSCI or FSI attendances.

4. MLC internal inspection

The internal MLC inspection verify the compliance with Maritime Labour Convention 2006 within the scope of the conventions providing real overview of the situation onboard as well as support to minimize or in the best-case scenario avoid disputes during ROs, a flag or a PSC inspections3. .

We strongly recommend the internal ISM/ISPS audits and MLC inspection to be done subsequently within one attendance period to have comprehensive clear view on the present situation onboard to maximize trade time.
